TAILGATE PARTY
Everyone is invited to a tailgate party prior to the Missouri football game in Columbia on Saturday, September 18. The Tigers will be playing San Diego State at 6 PM at Farout Field. This event is for the whole family! Due to cost and logistics, this is a loosely organized activity. Kevin Hogarth is the “grill meister” for the day and will welcome people to the lot south of the Mizzou Arena starting at 2 PM. Ribs are the main course (some beverages will be provided also) and you are asked to bring something to share with the group. You can park around campus for free and meet at the tailgate area. You do not have to attend the game to attend the tailgate! You are responsible for your own tickets ($47 face value), which can be purchased at www.mutigers.com or 1–800–CAT–PAWS. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Kevin by September 6 at 636–299–1174 or hogie1975@msn.com so he knows how many ribs to prepare. He will also be able to answer any other questions you may have about the day. If you like fun and football (or only one of them), come be a part of this fun experience!

THRIVENT WORKS
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has implemented a new program in which qualifying organizations/ congregations can be awarded Thrivent Choice dollars from Thrivent members. To learn more about Thrivent and this new program, John Priesmeyer, our local Thrivent financial representative, will be with us next Sunday, August 29. Mr. Priesmeyer will give a short presentation after our worship service, giving a brief background about Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. He will share with us how Thrivent can benefit the members of our congregation, and how this new Thrivent Choice program will benefit Apostles, as we are a qualified congregation able to receive Thrivent Choice dollars. Click here to make your choice now! If you have any questions, you can contact Jamie Bruen.
EYE RUN FOR HAITI
Consider participating in the second annual Eye Run for Haiti on Saturday, October 30. This is a 5K and 10K Race/Run/Walk that will travel through WingHaven; the 10K route goes right past our church on Bates Road! The lead sponsor is Regional Eye Care in WingHaven. Proceeds for the race will help build a school in the village of Magranbwa in northwest Haiti. I am informing of you this opportunity for a number of reasons:
We will be one of the sponsors that will appear on the shirts and banners for the event! We will also be able to supply brochures for the goody bags for each person. The combined event is expected to have about 500 participants. Apostles is located at the 4.5 mile mark of the 6.2 mile (10K) race and has been asked to supply a water station on site and at the roundabout just to our west to aid the people running the 5K. We will need several people to man the stations and offer encouragement to the participants.
It would be great to have a number of our members participate as a part of a team. Pastor Shevey is training for the 10K, so really anyone can do it! If running isn’t your thing, consider the 5K fun walk. Keep in mind this is for all ages. More information and registration forms are available online at www.regionaleyecare.com (click onthe Eye Run for Haiti icon). Register by October 1 to avoid the late fee and guarantee receiving an event shirt. If you are considering either distance run, keep in mind you may want to do a little training. Julie Shevey is willing to help you develop a plan to help you reach your goal. If you have any other questions about the race, contact Pastor.
Women’s Retreat
All women of Apostles are invited to join sisters in Christ from around the state at the annual ELS/WELS Women’s Retreat on Friday-Sunday October 8–10, being held at Heit’s Point Lutheran Conference Center in Lincoln, MO. This year, the Fall Rally is being combined with the Retreat. Enjoy a weekend of relaxation, spiritual growth, fellowship and fun! The cost will be determined by various options of lodging and meals; stay for all or part of the weekend. Pastor Ed Lehmann from Zion, Springfield/Peace, Marshfield will lead the Bible studies and a special worship service on Saturday. You may pick up registration forms on the LWMS Table at church. Registrations are due September 20, so please act quickly on this great opportunity! If you have questions, please contact Jamie Bruen or Robin Christopher.
Anniversary & Church Picnic
On September 10, 2000, Apostles held its first public worship service. The Lord has truly blessed the ministry of our congregation since then. With praise and thanksgiving, we will have a special 10th Anniversary celebration on Sunday, September 12! Pastor Larry Cross, who served as Minnesota District President when Apostles began, will serve as our guest preacher for our special service. Worship will be followed that day by our annual church picnic! We will be having a noon meal. Beef brisket will be our main dish. Families are asked to bring a side to share; there is a sign-up sheet at church. Soda and lemonade will be provided but you can bring other refreshments. There will be organized games for the kids of all ages, the “world famous” egg toss, and a washers tournament, as well as other surprises. Invite your family and friends for the fun! If you have questions, suggestions or wish to volunteer, please contact Kathy Bobbitt at 636–561–6706; your help is needed! Whether you have been a member since the beginning or have only visited once, be sure to celebrate the extraordinary gifts the Lord has granted us for more than 10 years!
